ERIC CLAPTON
Eric Clapton, considered one of the greatest
guitarists of all time, was inducted into the Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame three times with the
Yardbirds, Cream, and as a solo artist. Clapton was
challenged by depression during three periods of
major heartache in his life. In the early 1970s he
used a lot of drugs and fell into a depression when
Duane Allman, Jimi Hendrix, and the grandfather
who raised him died. Later, his unrequited love
for George Harrison’s wife, Patti Boyd, led him to

married Patti after she divorced George.) Perhaps
the worst heartbreak and subsequent depression

death of his young son, which inspired him to
write the song Tears in Heaven.
